Chapter Nineteen - Happy Family?

'So what time is the social worker coming?' Robyn said as she lifted Skye up from her cot.
'She said late afternoon' Taylor said as he aimlessly tapped his fingers on the piano. Robyn could see that Taylor wasn't thrilled that his only daughter was leaving him forever. They thought it best that Skye never knows about her life and she should go grow up learning she was Orphaned at birth.
'Tay?' Robyn said walking up to him slowly. He looked behind him and sighed.
'You wanna spend some time with her before she leaves?' Robyn said bringing the baby towards him more. He stood up slowly and brought out his hands like he was about to hold her, but all of a sudden put them down.
'I..I just can't. I'll be in the basement.' Taylor said taking one last look at Skye knowing he'd never see her again. Robyn watched as Tay scurried off out of sight to hide away. She hated how he could never confront things and remained always a closed book. She thought she would give Skye her last feed so warmed up a bottle of formula.
'You know I wrote a song for you. Its called Blue Skye. Taylor said he'll put it on the album and maybe when your older, you will listen to it and know its us. I don't know, I hope you remember me. Its going to be weird getting back to normal. I almost feel..like you belong with me and Taylor. This weekend has been tough but its nothing we can't handle. I know your daddy is really upset about you going. I am too. I just wish I could see the future and know what your life will be like here, or in some kids home. It sucks not having parents. I basically grew up with seperated parents and it is hard. Hopefully a nice family will foster you and look after you well.' Robyn began to tear up as she spoke to the baby girl who cluelessly looked up at her. DING DONG. It was the social worker here to pick up Skye. The resounding noise of the doorbell echoed in Robyns mind and her heart sank.
'Hey there, I'm Mrs Bloonwood. I'm here to pick up Skye Hanson?' Said the stout middle age woman with a slight tash on her upper lip.
'Right, come on in. I'll just gather all her things for you' Robyn said closing the door behind her.
'And if its okay I'll just ask a few questions'
'Sure' Robyn said as she put all her toys and bibs into a baby bag.
'So you said she was just left at your doorstep?'
'Yeah, her real mother has moved to Mexico and Taylor, her dad and I have no intention of bringing her up. We're not ready' The social worker nodded as if she's heard that excuse a million times.
'Right well that's all I need to know. Oh..by the way I couldn't trouble you for an autograph? My daughter absolutley loves your music' Robyn slightly smiled and took the pen and paper from the womans hand. She signed it and immidiatly looked down on Skye sleeping in her moses cot. Handing back the paper to Mrs Bloonwood she felt the tears start to well as Skye was lifted up and taken away.
'She likes to be read to before she goes to sleep. And don't make her bottle to cold. She just spews it back up. Please take care of her' Robyn exclaimed.
'Don't worry she'll be fine. Take care now' Said the social worker and she walked out the door. That was it.
Robyn stood there breathing heavily and looked around the room. She didn't even have a picture of Skye to look at. All of a sudden something came into Robyn's mind. She believed everything happens for a reason. There was a reason why Leila left Skye in Robyns protection. She didn't just dump her in some american orphanage, she left her with her father and a woman who was to kind hearted to turn a baby away. Robyn couldn't let Skye go.
'WAIT' Robyn shouted down the steps of her flat. The social worker just strapped Skye into the car seat.
'I can't. I can't let you take her.' Robyn unbuckled the child and brought her into her grasp.
'Now Miss Dollan, if I leave her here with you, not only will that breach every rule in the book. But I will be breaking the Law.'
'But her father lives with me. How is that against the law?' Robyn asked as Skye began to stirr from her sleep.
'I have no records to prove that.' The woman said taking back Skye in her possession.
'Please! Don't take her away!' Robyn's tears began to come down her face.
'I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do' the lady finally said with a smile. Robyn took in a deep breath and replied.
'Have you got adoption papers with you?' Mrs Bloonwood stood dead in her tracks and turned slowly to Robyn.
'You want to be come this childs adoptive mother?'
'You heard correct' Robyn answered slyly. The woman sighed and handed Skye over knowing a long process of signing papers was about to occur.
Taylor finally emerged from his hideaway to get a drink. But he had no intention to stay up stairs with Robyn, he was to upset to talk to her about anything. He would have done something to keep Skye, but he felt Robyn would leave him if he had. It was a dilemma and he couldn't make up his mind what meant more to him.
As he opened the door from the basement he looked up to find Robyn standing in the middle of the room with tears in her eyes. In her hands was Skye wide awake and playing with Robyns long hair. Taylor walked towards the two with a questioning look on his face.
'Has the social worker not arrived yet? I swore I heard the doorbell' Taylor said with his hands in his pockets looking at Skye.
'Yeah, she came' Robyn replied.
'Then why is Skye still here' Robyn rolled her tear filled eyes at him and smiled.
'You know me, a big softie at heart. I signed the adoption papers to make me Skye's legal guardian. She's ours babe. All ours.' Robyn said as her smile turned into a grin. Taylor stood in awe of Robyn and clasped his hands to his mouth.
'Your being serious? We can keep her' Taylor said coming closer to Robyn.
'Yeah, we're stuck with her babe' Robyn said handing Skye over to Taylor. He put his arm around Robyn and kissed her forehead. He was so relieved she decided to keep Skye and become her adoptive mother. Now the three of them could play happy families. Or so they thought.
